This breed appeared in the 19th century as a result of the deliberate crossing of a yellow wavy-coated gun dogs and Tweed water spaniel. Lord Tweedmouth has bred an excellent dog for waterfowl hunting, which is able to swim in cold water and retrieve game. Today the breed has a very versatile use: it can be a family companion; it is good in show rings and various competitions and can be trained for drugs and arson searching.
