Only Golden Retrievers that can be called the cream of the crop in their line should be used for breeding. A good breeding program should be well planned. Certain goals ought to be set before mating. Next mating is called to reinforce the desirable effects of the breeding program. A breeder should determine what traits have to be retained to improve the breed line and what characteristics should be avoided in the future litter. Responsible breeders use genetic tests to identify carriers. Defective genes must not be reintroduced in coming matings.
